A real media feud has erupted with Fox News' Sean Hannity in one corner and Comedy Central's Jon Stewart in the other. On The Daily Show Wednesday night, Jon Stewart replied to Sean Hannity calling him a "comedic hack" by calling Sean Hannity the "Arby's of news."
In a segment titled, "Grazed and Confused," Stewart continued to label Hannity a hypocrite for accusing the federal government of overreach in the Cliven Bundy situation, but defending the federal government in the cases of "stop & frisk" and a policeman pepperspraying "non-violent" protesters at UC Davis.
In response to Hannity accusing him of associating with Islamists like Yusuf Islam, Stewart claimed he didn't know Islam endorsed a "fatwa" on Salmon Rushdie when he hosted him at his 2010 "Rally to Restore Sanity," and also said Hannity had no business in labeling him "guilty by association" because Hannity regularly invited radical extremist Ted Nugent on as guest.
As the segment concluded, Stewart took the gloves off and slammed into Hannity with insult upon insult. It wasn't pretty.
“For all the disingenuous, hypocritical, nonfactual, corrosive, hacky, awful, word-turds — the awful word turds that you speak — you did get one thing right,” said Stewart. “I am obsessed with your program in the same way that I am obsessed with antibiotic resistant super bugs, or the Pacific garbage patch, or the KFC double-down, because I just can’t believe that in this day and age, with all that we know, this shit is out there.”
“That our society is weighed down by these burdens of a seemingly more medieval time, like your show,” he continued. “To see it night after night, serving up the same shit, my god, you’re the Arby’s of news.”
Stewart offered no rebuttal to Hannity accusing Stewart of being an "Obama apologist" and holding a double-standard to conservatives defending Cliven Bundy when people like Harry Reid and Donna Brazile have falsely labeled him a "domestic terrorist" and a new "Timothy McVeigh."
