Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was involuntarily branded as “the moral conscience of America” for speaking out, crying really, during his monologues about gun control and socialized health care. But when allegations of sexual abuse was brought against Harvey Weinstein and other Hollywood power players, Kimmel’s mysteriously tears dried up.

Now, in an interview with ABC, Kimmel explains why he has laid off aiming jokes at Weinstein and you aren’t going to like his answers… at all:

“First of all, the Harvey Weinstein thing, people like this false equivalence, as if that’s somehow equivalent to what happened in Las Vegas.”

Duly noted: women being sexually molested is just not that bad. Whatever you say, Jimmy.

He goes on to inform us that he and Weinstein aren’t friends and has no connection to him as a talk show host — not that that’s ever stopped him from constant jokes aimed at President Trump, who is also in another business and they certainly aren’t buds.

Kimmel said the story also broke at a time when he didn’t have time to get a joke on air, even though at least one other late-night comedian did. He finally got around to it on Monday, working Weinstein into a joke about, you guessed it, Donald Trump, Jr:

“Next time you’re defending your father and you think it’s a good idea to draw a comparison between him and a freshly accused sexual predator, don’t. It doesn’t help.”

Kimmel’s past has also been creeping up to haunt him, as well, especially the sexually perverted bits he used to do on The Man Show: one in which he asked girls to feel his crotch and guess what he had stuffed in his pants, and another in which he asked random women on the street to have sex. Classy stuff:

You’re going to love what he said about those clips:

“What they’re doing now is they’re trying to drag up any kind of — especially these gun nuts — trying to drag any… take any comedy bit I did out of context and use it as some kind of proof that I’m calling myself the moral conscience of America which I most certainly never did, and most certainly never would.”

Gun nuts, huh? At least we now know how you really feel.

And as far as not being the nation’s “moral conscience:” he sure was eating it up a few weeks ago when the tears were flowing during those lectures about how unfair everything is in America.

But still, Kimmel refuses to take a moral stand against the sexual sins of Hollywood. Does he approve, or not? We can’t know. He’s too busy condemning law-abiding “gun nuts.”
