NBC's Tonight Show has returned to sunny Los Angeles for the week and to celebrate, host Jimmy Fallon and his show band, The Root, has recreated the iconic opening title sequence to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air starring Will Smith.
The video features "DJ Jazzy Jeff," Smith's band mate during his recording career in the early 90s, as well as Smith's co-star, Alfonso Ribeiro dancing "The Carlton," the famous dance his character performed on the TV series.
As has become the norm for the Tonight Show since its re-launch under Fallon, a YouTube release of the Fresh Prince opening has gone super viral with close to four million views in just 24 hours.
AM New York chronicles the stellar week Fallon has had in releasing bits from his show for social media consumption:
Even though it's only Tuesday, Fallon has already dominated the Internet this week. In his first night in Los Angeles on Monday, he told viewers why he went to L.A. in the first place with a cold open tribute to "Fresh Prince," which even featured Alfonso Ribeiro dancing The Carlton.
Fallon also remixed Brian Williams as rapping "Who Am I?" on Monday night's show.
Fallon made a stop at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix for a special show on Sunday after the Super Bowl, featuring a special lip sync-off with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.
Considering social media and Internet presence in residual views has become a bellwether for the popularity and devoted viewership for a television program, Fallon has clearly found the right formula in re-purposing his content for the YouTube age.
