On Sunday's Meet the Press, former President Jimmy Carter sat down with NBC's Andrea Mitchell and said he feels that he has been a target of the NSA's surveillance.
Carter says when communicating with foreign leaders, he prefers the old-fashioned method of snail mail through the US Post Office to stave off prying eyes.
Mitchell set up Carter's comments, asserting that some people argue that intelligence-gathering is critical in protecting the homeland. Carter replied:
That has been extremely liberalized and I think abused by our own intelligence agencies. As a matter of fact, you know I have felt that my own communications were probably monitored. And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write the letter myself, put it in the post office and mail it. Because I believe that if I sent an email, it would be monitored.
