The Jerusalem Post is reporting that an Arab man killed his pregnant Jewish girlfriend in order to “release Palestinian prisoners.” The man strangled her and bashed her head in with rocks. It isn’t confirmed that he was the father of the child, but apparently, the couple was getting close to an engagement.
The Post states that Michal Halimi, 29, was not only pregnant but married to another man. She went missing at the end of May and her body was found on July 24. Investigators discovered that Halimi left the Binyamin District in the West Bank and was staying with the Palestinian suspect, Muhammad Harouf, on her own accord. The two posted messages and photos to social media which indicated they were in a serious relationship and intended on marrying one another.
However, police received a confession from Harouf that he killed Halimi: “According to his version, he met the deceased in the Holon area, choked her, threw stones at her head, covered her body, and left the scene in her car in order to ‘release Palestinian prisoners.’”
Nothing in the report indicates how killing her would enable him to do so, but according to the orthodox organization Yad L’Achim, which is said to rescue Jewish women from Muslim marriages, Halimi’s story is “part of the long statistics of Jewish women who find themselves in romantic relationships with Arabs, and then find themselves in a violent and suffocating situation.”
“In Yad L’Achim, we encounter such cases on a regular basis, and try to help and support these women in finding a way to build a new life,” the organization added.
