The ladies of Iowa may want to be on high alert this week - Bill Clinton is coming to the Hawkeye State to campaign for Hillary, reports The Washington Post.

Bill Clinton will arrive in Iowa on Thursday to complete a four-stop campaign swing through the state on behalf of his wife, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

With polls showing the race tightening uncomfortably for Clinton, her surrogates — from elected officials to celebrities — have flooded to Iowa in recent weeks. But perhaps no surrogate is as big a draw as the former president, who is hugely popular with the Democratic base.

Bill's presence on the campaign trail comes as his wife seeks to energize her base for the caucuses just days away.

Hillary herself will be making separate campaign stops Thursday in Iowa as well. She has spent most of the last several weeks campaigning there, leaving the state only briefly to campaign in New Hampshire and fundraise in other parts of the country, WaPo notes.

Hillary is currently leading in most polls in Iowa but has been threatened by challenger Bernie Sanders, the "democratic socialist" who is leading in New Hampshire. The two have become more combative in recent days, with Clinton attempting to paint Sanders's promises as unrealistic, and Sanders accusing Clinton of running a "desperate" campaign.
