Twenty-nine year old Huffington Post managing editor Jimmy Soni was investigated for sexual harassment aimed at certain young female employees prior to his departure from the company.

Gawker reported on Thursday that HuffPo's "corporate parent AOL" led the investigation, beginning in April,  after "rumors" began circulating within the staff that Soni may have displayed "inappropriate and sometimes harassing behavior toward certain female staffers."

Those "certain female staffers" were most always blonde and white. Soni was described by a staff member as being open about his inclination for this type of woman. The report states that he managed HuffPo's Editorial Fellows program and stocked it with the girls of his liking. Trying to make light of his obvious bias in choosing "Fellows," Soni said, "Yeah, I'm using it to find myself a wife."

It is noted that Soni never traded benefits within the company for sexual favors, but did have a habit of sending "inappropriate Facebook messages" and making "odd phone calls" to ask the girls out.

HuffPo tried to hide the real reason Soni stepped aside in May by stating that he left to write a book and to work as a consultant for at his former job. But curiously, they also moved him out of New York and into New Delhi, seemingly to lessen the heat, as former staffers perceived. Gawker states:

Within the company, Soni’s transfer was simultaneously seen as a stop-gap, designed to give the company—and [Arianna] Huffington herself—enough time to devise a plausible story for his inevitable, and permanent, exit. 

By Thursday evening, Soni responded to the Gawker piece and offered an explanation of why he left but said he wouldn't comment on "unsubstantiated rumors:"

Keenan — Saw your article. I chose to leave Huffpost in order to finish writing a book I have under contract with Simon and Schuster. The book has been in the works for several months, as have my plans to leave. As the managing editor for over two years and with a long track record of success, I accomplished what I set out to accomplish there, am still close with many of the team members who made this possible, and won’t comment on unsubstantiated rumors.
