On Wednesday, Donald Trump visited a predominately African-American church in Flint, Michigan to discuss the city’s water crisis. But as he began to criticize Hillary Clinton’s failures, a female pastor politely walked up to the Republican nominee at the podium and reminded him he wasn’t there to make a political speech.
“Hillary failed on the economy, just like she’s failed on foreign policy. Everything she touched didn’t work out, nothing,” Trump began saying. “Now Hillary Clinton—“
Suddenly, Rev. Faith Green-Timmons appeared on stage, walked to the podium and said, “Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for what we have done in Flint, not to give a political speech.”
“Oh, okay,” Trump said calmly. “And I’m going to go back on to Flint,” he added to applause from those gathered.
“Flint’s pain is a result of so many different failures,” Trump continued. However, the reverend’s actions emboldened several in the audience to begin heckling him. One shouted, “You’ve discriminated against black tenants.”
“No, I never — never would,” Trump retorted.
Trump’s words about government failures in a Democrat-controlled city just weren't very popular, apparently. The truth hurts.
