The moral void that is Hollywood has claimed another victim- the Netflix hit House of Cards.
Yesterday, actor Anthony Rapp came forward with the accusation that star Kevin Spacey had sexually harassed him by trying to "seduce him" 30 years ago- when he was only 14 years old. This morning, Spacey released a statement saying that he didn't remember the incident and that, if it had indeed happened, he must have been intoxicated. As though that excuses that kind of behavior. In the same statement, he then came out as homosexual. The backlash against his statement was pretty much immediate, with everyone from GLAAD to Zachary Quinto accusing him of coming out to deflect from the scandal.
Now, Netflix and producer Media Rights Capital have decided to pull the plug on Spacey's show House of Cards after its current season. “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey," said the companies in a joint statement today. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.” Deadline Hollywood reports that Netflix may also cancel their upcoming Spacey film Gore about author Gore Vidal.
Kevin Spacey is an outspoken liberal with a long history in the Democrat party. Politico reported that he once said "I started working on my first presidential campaign when Jimmy Carter ran for president...I worked for other candidates in various races and ultimately became very close with former President Clinton." He said that Americans simply didn't appreciate Obama enough, and has performed for the Clinton Foundation. In March of 2016, he said that Donald Trump"used racism" as a campaign tool and mocked him in multiple interviews.
Hollywood has long mocked conservatives, They made fun of Mike Pence for refusing to put himself in situations that might be perceived as inappropriate while they were covering up for sexual deviants. They take to media appearances and awards shows to wax philosophic about their moral superiority, telling those of us in the flyover states how much better they are than we. The morality-free zone that has long been Hollywood is finally collapsing like (dare I say it?) a house of cards.
