Hollywood Harassment Roundup: November 6

Steven Segal, Plus Updates on Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein

A hollywood publicist told the New York Post that celebrities are skipping red carpets, opting to sneak into side doors instead. Why? They don't want to be asked about the plague of sexual harrassment scandals that have been unleashed on Hollywood, and they don't want to be photographed with the wrong person. “It’s not just Harvey Weinstein, it’s Dustin Hoffman, Brett Ratner, that country-music guy [Kirt Webster] . . . It’s playing six degrees of separation. Anybody can make a connection.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it," she said, "People are avoiding and dodging the carpet. They won’t even do photos.”

With no further ado, let's get into today's roundup.

Steven Seagal

Actress Julianna Margulies says that in 1989, when she was 23, she was asked to meet with action star Steven Seagal in his hotel room. When she got there, "he made sure that I saw his gun" she says, before trying to massage her. "I sorta screamed my way out."

Kevin Spacey Update

Netflix has announced that they are severing all ties with Kevin Spacey as people continue to come forward with stories of sexual assault. "Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. They are also axing the upcoming film Gore in which he was set to star.

Speaking of people coming forward, Actor Harry Dreyfuss alleges that he was another in the growing list of teen boys groped by Spacey. At the age of 18, he told Buzzfeed, When his father, Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss, was in a play with Spacey, they met, and this is his telling of what happened next.

Over the course of about 20 seconds, centimeter by centimeter, Kevin crawled his hand from my thigh over toward my crotch. My mind went blank. Suddenly, he had completed his journey and now he had all of me in his hand. I stopped reading the script and my eyes went wide. I lifted up my head and faced him. Looking into his eyes, I gave the most meager shake of my head that I could manage. I was trying to warn him without alerting my dad, who still had his eyes glued to the page.

Dreyfuss says that he told friends, trying to make it into a joke, but did not immediately tell his father. He thought that he was protecting his dad's place in the play and his own future career as an actor by staying quiet. However, it has become clear over time, and especially recently, that Spacey's behavior was wrong, he says.

Harvey Weinstein Update

Julianna Margulies says that Harvey Weinstein tried the same thing with her that he did on numerous other women - the old "bathrobe in the hotel room" trick. She was called to his room and made one of his female employees accompany her. When he opened the door (in his robe), Marguiles says she could see a candlelit dinner for two in the room. He got angry when he saw she wasn't alone and slammed the door. She didn't get the part for which she was being considered, she says of the encounter.

Paz de la Huerta's allegations may be the ones which bring Weinstein down. The NYPD said Friday that they had a credible allegation from an actress who is widely thought to be de la Huerta, and that they had corroborated parts of her story. They are now in the process of gathering evidence towards making an arrest.

NYPD’s chief of detectives, Robert Boyce said:

She put forth a credible and detailed narrative. We found corroboration.... We have an actual case here.” If Weinstein were in New York now and the alleged rapes were recent, Boyce said, “we would go right away and make the arrest. No doubt. But we are talking about a 7-year-old case and we have to move forward gathering evidence first.
