The Left’s in-fighting over the Hillary Clinton scandal continues: the defeated presidential candidate’s campaign has responded to the recent, severely damaging claims of corruption by Donna Brazile.
The former interim Democratic National Committee Chair alleged Thursday via an excerpt from her new book posted by Politico that Clinton had rigged the 2016 primaries. An online response to the charge was published Saturday, signed by former Clinton campaign officials including Huma Abedin, Robby Mook, Jennifer Palmieri, and John Podesta. The letter bizarrely accused Brazile of being duped by a Russian-Trump scheme, stating:
“It is particularly troubling and puzzling that she would seemingly buy into false Russian-fueled propaganda, spread by both the Russians and our opponent, about our candidate’s health.”
Brazile’s op-ed for Politico — in support of her new book Hacked — claimed that Clinton took control of the DNC’s finances, ensuring all resources went to her campaign, to the detriment of Bernie Sanders. She also asserted that Barack Obama left the DNC under a mountain of debt.
The campaign's response letter was published on Medium and thanked Brazile for her performance at the DNC during a stressful time, but it firmly stated that there was no similarity between Brazile’s account and the reality of the campaign:
“Donna came in to take over the DNC at a very difficult time…We were grateful to her for doing so. She is a longtime friend and colleague of many of us and has been an important leader in our party. But we do not recognize the campaign she portrays in the book.”
Yeah; they seem like great friends.
In Brazile’s memoir, she revealed her considerations of replacing Hillary with New Jersey Senator Cory Booker or then-Vice President Joe Biden, after Clinton had been caught on camera fainting — an event which resulted in the former First Lady claiming she was ill with pneumonia. In reaction to Brazile’s ponderance, the letter stated:
“We were shocked to learn the news that Donna Brazile actively considered overturning the will of the Democratic voters by attempting to replace Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine as the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees.”
"The will of the Democratic voters" -- those are strong words, coming from the campaign that rigged the voters' "will."
Regarding Hillary’s grim prognosis for appealing to white working-class voters, Brazile said in her book that the Clinton campaign had “the odor of failure.” The campaign letter shot back against that characterization:
“The general election loss was devastating for us all and something we live with every day. And while frustrating that the general election vote total did not change the outcome of the election, we remain proud that Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine received nearly 3 million more votes in the general election than their opponents.”
But Donald Trump still won. And Clinton is left mired in scandal yet again, a plague upon the Democratic Party. Her legacy: personal disgrace and party in-fighting.
When asked Friday if Brazile was lying about Clinton’s corrupt dealings, former campaign spokesperson Adrienne Elrod told MSNBC:
“I think if she’s implying that that took place during the primary, (then) absolutely.”
Brazile’s revelation’s about Hillary's unscrupulousness confirm the worst fears of Democrats who were reluctant to support the corrupt candidate. And for those of us who didn’t vote for her, it makes even more glorious the fact that she lost.
