When directly asked by MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell for an apology over using a personal e-mail server containing classified documents while Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton refused not just once, but twice.
During the Friday interview, Mitchell directly confronted the Democratic presidential candidate saying, "You said recently that using your personal email while you were Secretary of State was not the best choice and that you take responsibility. Are you sorry?”
Clinton dodged hard:
Well, I certainly wish that I had made a different choice and I know why the American people have questions about it, and I wanted to make sure that I answer those questions. Starting with the fact that my personal email use was fully aboveboard. It was allowed by the State Department, as they have confirmed. But in retrospect, it certainly would have been better I take responsibility. I should have had two accounts: one for personal, and one for work-related.
Then she bragged about how "transparent" she has been, allowing 55,000 e-mails to be viewed by the public and turning over her server. Plus, she added, she is actively looking for "opportunities to testify before Congress" and has been offering to do so for over a year. And then Clinton drove the interview towards the more important issues (to her) of the 2016 election, equal pay, affordable college, etc.
But Mitchell wasn't interested in the conversation going there. She pressed again for an apology. Here is the rest of the segment, attempting to get Hillary back on track:
Mitchell: But this has created what even your own campaign manager said are some headwinds. A lot of noise out there, so let’s get through some of it. First of all, are you sorry? Do you want to apologize to the American people for the choice you made?
Clinton: Well, it wasn’t the best choice, and I certainly have said that and I will continue to say that. As I’ve also said many times, it was allowed and it was fully aboveboard. The people in the government knew that I was using a personal account, but it would have been better if I'd had two separate accounts to begin with. And certainly I'm doing all I can now to try to be as transparent about what I did have on my work-related e-mails. And I think, you know, they will be coming out. I wish it were faster. It's a little frustrating. It's taking a while. But there is a process that has to be followed.
Video below via Washington Free Beacon, who quipped, "Queen Hillary Clinton does not apologize."
In CNN video, Clinton can be heard saying, "At the end of the day, I am sorry that this has been confusing to people and has raised a lot of questions." There you go, Hillary voters, it's your fault.
