Hillary Drops Among White Women Voters

"She’s been dented and she’s in a weaker position."

Hillary Clinton has slumped in the polls among white women voters due to reports about her email practices, speaking fees and foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation.'

In a WSJ/NBC News Poll, Hillary has dropped in favorability among white women from 44% to only 34% in just one month between June and July. 53% have a negative impression of her. Her numbers echo President Obama in the 2012 election when he fared poorly with white women voters compared to candidate Mitt Romney by 14 points.

"For Team Clinton, the latest poll numbers are a worrisome development," reported the Wall Street Journal. "Mrs. Clinton is unlikely to match the African-American turnout that propelled Mr. Obama to two presidential victories, so she has to make up the difference somewhere else. Women eager to see a woman in the White House is a logical group to target."

In past polls, Hillary Clinton has done generally well among the white woman demographic, but this poll represents a striking turn of events.

Earlier this year, Clinton held a favorability rating among white women by a staggering 18 point margin, but has dropped steadily ever since, even among college graduates, who held a 51% positive view of her back in June, but now hold only a 43% positive view. Among college women, Clinton has 47% negative favorability rating.

"There is no way you can say she’s in the same position this month compared to last month,” said Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster who directs the WSJ/NBC News survey along with Democrat Fred Yang. "She’s been dented and she’s in a weaker position."

Conducted from July 26-30, the WSJ/NBC polled 1,000 adults.
