Hall of Fame QB: Athletes Boycotting Trump 'Disrespectful' and 'Stupid'

“Nobody boycotted Obama because he’s black, did they?”

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton, formerly of the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, called out athletes who plan to decline White House invitations from President-elect Donald Trump as being "disrespectful" and "stupid."

TMZ Sports caught up with Tarkenton, a "big Trump guy," on the street and asked him about the Trump boycotters. TMZ was referring to Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, who said he would not visit the White House if the Cavaliers won the NBA championship and received an invitation. His teammate, LeBron James, likewise refused to commit to attending a Trump-emceed White House ceremony.

Tarkenton responded to TMZ, “Nobody boycotted Obama because he’s black, did they? No. They all went there because he was our President. And you respect our President. No matter whether you’re for him or not.”

“If they don’t want to go there, so what?” Tarkenton said. “That’s disrespectful, is it not?…It’s nuts.”

The retired QB also slammed the media for their biased coverage of Trump.

“The media, thank God, don’t run our country,” Tarkenton asserted. “The media’s a bunch of hacks that write stuff.”

As for Trump, Tarkenton said, "We will see great things because he knows how to get things done."
