Following the "execution-style" shooting of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth and the rise of violent anti-police rhetoric, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called on Texans to "stand with law enforcement" by honoring the slain deputy Friday.

"Respect and pride in our law enforcement must be restored in this state and nation," said Governor Abbott in a statement. "It is time to unite in solidarity to support the men and women who serve and protect our communities. I ask that communities across Texas support this cause for unity and remember the essential role that law enforcement plays in keeping Texas safe and strong."

Breitbart Texas, who obtained a copy of the statement, provides the specifics Abbott outlined for the statewide show of solidarity for officers, including asking all law enforcement personnel to turn on their emergency lights for one minute at 11:00AM CT Friday. The governor encouraged civilians to join law enforcement by turning on their headlights and emergency flashers at the same time.

Abbott also announced that a procession of patrol cars will gather Friday morning at the Texas Capitol to honor the murdered deputy.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick likewise called for a statewide display of support for law enforcement in the wake of Goforth's death.

"I challenge all Texans to think about how underappreciated our officers must feel, how dangerous their jobs are, how they leave their families everyday not knowing if they are coming home and more importantly, if there is anything you can do to help make their job a little easier," Patrick wrote in a statement.

Patrick provided some suggestions on ways Texans could show their appreciation and support for the men and women risking their lives every day to protect them, including being respectful, donating to their charities, and signing up for volunteer-citizen jobs for local law enforcement.
