Florida Town Bans Saggy Pants On City Property

Offense punishible by $500 fine or jail time

The town of Ocala, Florida has outlawed the wearing of "saggy pants" on city property, after a City Council vote last week.

Anyone caught wearing their pants in such a way that it exposes "undergarments or a bare buttocks" is potentially subject to a $500 fine or jail time.

As the Miami Herald reported, this was the second time Councilwoman Mary Rich attempted to pass such an ordinance:

In 2009, no one seconded her motion. Mayor Kent Guinn said in 2009 that one of his objects was that the ordinance would lead to profiling. Rich told him the ordinance applies to both genders and all races.
