President Obama has broken a promise to the parents of a U.S humanitarian aid worker who was killed as a hostage of ISIS. The president told the family privately that he would make an anonymous donation to the charity the family set up in their daughter's name, and they are still waiting for him to make good on that promise.

Kayla Mueller was taken captive in Syria in 2013 while accompanying someone working with Doctors Without Borders. She was held as a sex slave of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for 18 months until her death in 2015.

A month after her death, Kayla’s parents, Carl and Marsha, met privately with President Obama. Carl said he was very “sincere and apologetic.” Obama asked what he could do for the family. Carl told 20/20:

“I said, ‘Mr. President, I’d be remiss if I didn’t give you the opportunity to support Kayla’s foundation.’ And he said, ‘I will help with that foundation.’”

But the Muellers say they are still waiting. Obama told them they wouldn’t know it was him; it would be anonymous, but he promised a donation. “I’m still waiting for that donation, Mr. President,” Carl said in the ABC interview.

“And you see that flag at my driveway,” he added. “It’s not something I take lightly, talking about our president that way. But that’s what he said.”

On Friday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest was confronted by ABC’s Jonathan Karl over the president’s non-actions. Earnest said, “I’m not going to speak to any private conversations the president had with the Mueller family… What I will say is the president is aware of the foundation, Kayla’s Hands, that’s been formed to honor her memory and to honor her life’s work. It certainly is consistent with the kind of charity the president and the first lady have supported in the past, and I do anticipate that the president would make a commitment to support this organization moving forward.”

Karl pressed but Earnest repeated the script:

As TruthRevolt reported last year, Obama told Buzzfeed that the U.S. did all it could to rescue Mueller and the other hostages but he admitted the risky operation was a day or two late.
