Ed Schultz must have gotten the word somehow that MSNBC was getting whipped in the ratings by CNN's obsessive coverage of the Malaysian Airline disaster because he started his show with his own theories about what must have happened to the plane. Schultz said it was easy to carve out an air strip in the middle of a jungle somewhere and then speculated that the pilot would be able to fly "below the radar" and remain undetected. Schultz reminisced about the now famous Hudson River landing by hero Captain Sullly, then said,
Of course this aircraft could have landed on water near an island, 'everybody swim for yourself!'
Schultz continued he did not think it was a suicide mission or mechanical issue, saying,
I think this is a well-funded, hi-tech, hijack operation and it's sittin' somewhere in the jungle, and yeah, I think they carved out a strip for it.
Schultz said he believes that because one of the pilots had a simulator in his home he would have been able to practice flying the plane without radar detection. He kept repeating that his lofty theories were okay because "anything is on the table."
