Dr. Dope: Ben Carson Releases Rap Ad

In hopes of reaching the black vote in cities like Atlanta, Birmingham, Detroit, and Memphis, the Ben Carson campaign spent $150,000 for a rap song to be played on radio in those markets over the next few weeks.

The ad is called "Freedom" and features a rap, not performed by Carson, but edited around clips of his speeches. Check it out below:

Doug Watts, spokesman for the campaign, told ABC News said the goal is "reaching [young black voters] on a level they appreciate and follow and see if we can attract their consciousness about the election. They need to get involved and express their voice through their vote."

The rap ad is already being criticized as pandering to its audience by other blacks online and through social media. But the Carson camp believes it will be effective:

This happens to be a group that we feel pretty strongly is ready and prepared to start working for Ben Carson. [We are] reaching out and talking to them in a language that they prefer and in a language that -- and in a cultural format -- that they appreciate.
