The Left can't get enough of calling Republicans racist. If anyone on the Right criticizes anything in the world, and if the Left can link that thing to a race -- and if that race isn't white -- they will turn it into political mud to be slung. And no one slings mud better than the Left.
Enter a comment by President Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office Thursday about immigration. As reported by The Washington Post, according to anonymous sources at the meeting, Trump asked:
“Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?”
Trump reportedly proposed that the United States should, instead, absorb citizens from nations such as Norway (he had met with the prime minister of the Scandinavian country the day before). The President also expressed interest in receiving more immigrants from Asian countries due to their perceived economic benefit.
Trump raised a relevant question; many countries -- such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong -- have a merit-based system of immigration, in which applicants are judged according to ways that they can contribute to society.
Nevertheless, cue the race-obsessed Left. Specifically, enter left-wing CNN's Don Lemon, on Thursday's CNN Tonight:
"The President of the United States is racist. A lot of us already knew that."
According to biased pundit Lemon, Trump's comments were "disgusting" but not unanticipated:
"But you know what? They’re not shocking, not even really surprising because this is who Donald Trump is. This is what he thinks."
Lemon was right: if Trump made the comments, then they are indeed what he thinks. They are also, incidentally, not racist.
Undeterred by rationality, Lemon implored his viewers to note his vast wisdom:
"For years, I and others have been trying to tell you, the American people, that this man was exhibiting bigoted behavior. I asked him about it a number of times, and he denied it but kept up the racist rhetoric and behavior throughout the campaign and now while he's in the White House."
For years? How many? It wasn't until Trump ran as a Republican in 2016 that he suddenly and magically became, according to Democrats, Satan.
Lastly, Lemon offered some free advice for anyone who doesn't support his race-baiting:
"And for all of you who over the last few years uttered that tired, lazy, uninformed, uneducated, ignorant response of calling me and others who point out racist behavior racists, you know what you can go do?"
"I can’t say that, but you can go read a book. A history book."
Don Lemon would do well to read a book himself: a dictionary. Maybe he'd learn that criticizing countries with failed infrastructures and corrupt governments is not the same as criticizing the citizens of those countries, nor is it racism. Realistically, though, no book would likely help the CNN anchor -- when it comes to President Donald Trump, Lemon is a closed mind.
