Devo Singer Celebrates Wedding with 9/11-Themed Reception

Tasteless.

The singer and bassist for '80s new wave band Devo got married on Friday, September 11, and celebrated afterwards with a 9/11-themed reception.

Photos of the event were published on Hollywood gossip site TMZ and showed 67-year-old Jerry Casale and his new bride Krista Napp, 26, posing with a Twin Towers cake and box cutter party favors. Place cards were set around the private Santa Monica, California reception with "Gerald & Krista" engraved on an image of a box cutter.

Speaking to Billboard after his weekend honeymoon, Casale apologized "to anyone who was offended." He then deflected the blame onto one of his friends he says planned every bit without his knowledge.

"He thought it was some sort of transgressive sick humor, and the problem is, it's not funny," Casale said. He added that he believed the place cards were as far as the 9/11 reference was going to go until the cake was delivered -- a cake he willingly was photographed next to with a smile.

Casale was also upset that some invited attendee had the "bad taste" to sell the private photos to TMZ

The newlyweds say they were surprised by the media attention their wedding received and say it has now "ruined our wedding." Casale said there are plenty of other "horrors" out there for the media to cover like the migrant crisis in Europe or Boko Haram.

Casale told Billboard that September, 11, was the best day for the wedding because the Beverly Hills courthouse would only be open that day, and that was the last Friday before their marriage application expired. Casale said some of his friends questioned the appropriateness of that date but he assured them that he and Knapp "are the Twin Towers of love."
