Detroit Lions Season Ticket Holder Banned from Stadium for Using N-Word

It was said against a black couple not standing during national anthem.

A photo of a black couple sitting during the national anthem at a Detroit Lions game went viral because they were labeled “ignorant niggers” by the person who posted it to Snapchat.

Accused of making the offending post is David Doptis, a business owner in Pontiac, Michigan. In a Facebook post, the caption read, “You wanna sit down for the national anthem? You dont like our country then get tge fuck outttt [sic].”

The photo shows the black couple sitting apart from other fans, who appear to be mostly white, as they stand for the patriotic moment.

Doptis, however, denied posting the message.

“I didn't post any pictures, any collages anything … I don't know where that even came from,” he initially claimed. However, later on Facebook, he admitted that he did and then deleted his social media account. It is reported that he hasn’t opened his business since his post went viral.

The woman in the picture, identified as Stacey Graham, said, “Everybody has an opinion. He probably could’ve stuck with ‘he wishes we would’ve stood’ and I would’ve been like ‘OK’, but to write that under our picture — no words.”

“We gotta build our country back together, we gotta come together. Whatever that may mean,” she added. “The racial slur, that’s going backwards.”

For his indiscretion, Doptis can never step foot back in the stadium — a move head coach Jim Caldwell felt was appropriate. The Lions issued a statement:

“Providing our fans with a safe and enjoyable experience at all Ford Field events is of the utmost importance and an absolute priority for our organization. A core component of our guest conduct policy is the expectation that all fans are respectful and considerate to each other regardless of their personal beliefs or differences.”
