Democratic New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat claims bills like Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act passed by the House on Thursday are setting the stage for future terrorist attacks on American soil.
At a press conference with fellow Congressional Hispanic Caucus members on Capitol Hill, Espaillat, the first formerly undocumented immigrant to ever serve in Congress, said anti-sanctuary city laws will have a “chilling effect” in cities across the U.S.:
“People will go into hiding. People will not come forward to report crimes. And if we begin to deny funding to cities across the United States, a city like New York, who experienced 9/11, which has been the safest biggest city in the country since 9/11 because of the federal funding that we got to combat terrorism, providing for training, equipment, overtime pay for law enforcement, we will be allowing terrorists to come in and attack us again! And so, this is a travesty.”
Espaillat added before ending his speech in Spanish, “This is a lie! We’ve been hijacked, bamboozled by, uh, Donald Trump. We should all stand up against this.”
The congressman argued that sanctuary cities have been “misinterpreted” for too long as harboring dangerous criminals. They’re really about protecting undocumented families, he said, and keeping them from being afraid to be turned in.
“It’s a safety net for people that are a part of our family,” the rep said. “They wash our dishes, they take care of our elderly, they pick our crops. And so, this is an anti-American bill.”
And one he thinks will cause violent attacks. You think he forgot that Kate Steinle was violently attacked and killed by a criminal alien because these laws weren't in place? Or, do you think he even cares?
