David Koch: 'I'm A Social Liberal'

It's "their problem" if GOP doesn't agree

David Koch, of the billionaire brothers who support conservative candidates, identifies himself as a "social liberal."

During ABC's This Week, guest host Martha Raddatz previewed an interview Barbara Walters did with Koch for an upcoming special on the most fascinating people of the year.

Walters asked Koch if it is fair that he uses his billions to "influence elections." Koch explained that he obeys the federal law that limits contributions to individual candidates and isn't doing anything illegal.

Koch described his political views to Walters:

I'm basically a libertarian, and I'm a conservative on economic matters, and I'm a social liberal.

When Walters pointed out that many of the candidates he backs do not hold his views on gay rights or abortion rights, Koch responded, "Well, that's their problem." "I do have those views," he added.

Koch's desire for the candidates he supports is fiscal in nature. He said:

What I want these candidates to do is to support a balanced budget. And I'm very worried that if the budget is not balanced, that inflation could occur and the economy of our country can suffer terribly.

Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014 will air on Sunday evening at 9:00p.m., ET on ABC.
