Last week, multiple media outlets reported that Hillary Clinton was told to use a personal email address to conduct State Department business by former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Powell said he has no recollection of that conversation, which allegedly took place at a dinner party hosted by another former Secretary of State, Madeline Albright. Powell went so far as to say that Clinton had already been using a personal email account when he sent her a memo about using his personal email account for non-classified communications.
Now Condoleeza Rice, who was also in attendance at the Albright party, has stated she has no recollection of a conversation where Powell advised Clinton to use a personal email account.
The Daily Caller writes:
Georgia Godfrey, Rice’s chief of staff at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, where Rice teaches, tells The Daily Caller that Rice does not recall the discussion.
“Dr. Rice’s isn’t doing any media right now. I can tell you though that she has no recollection of that conversation either,” Godfrey told TheDC.
The story about Powell and Clinton at the Albright dinner party was published in a new book by Clinton supporter Joe Conason, who wrote:
“Toward the end of the evening, over dessert, Albright asked all of the former secretaries to offer one salient bit of counsel to the nation’s next top diplomat,” Mr. Conason writes. “Powell told her to use her own email, as he had done, except for classified communications, which he had sent and received via a State Department computer.”
Powell came forward after the story broke to deny recollection of that conversation and say it appeared like the Clinton team was trying to "pin" her personal email use on him.
Rice did not use email at all during her time as Secretary of State.
