Comedian Daniel Tosh, host of Comedy Central's Tosh.0, minimizes the seriousness of abortion and mocks pro-lifers in a parody of a popular headphones commercial.
As Tosh and his "girlfriend" pull up to a Planned Parenthood clinic (revealed later), shouting can be heard outside of the car. Tosh says, "We're here -- and there are a lot of people out there." His girlfriend responds, "Great." Their dialogue continues amidst the muffled, angry chatter outside:
Tosh: Remember, this is our choice, and we are doing nothing wrong.
Girl: I know.
Tosh: If you want to change your mind, that is totally your decision -- even though I think it's a really bad one.
Girl: There's no way I'm changing my mind. We both know you'd be a horrible father.
Tosh: I wanna pay for my half.
Girl: Ha!
Tosh: Alright, let's get that demon baby out of you.
At this point, Tosh slips on Beats headphones as the two exit the car. The shouts from the angry, anti-abortion protesters are now louder and clearer. However, for Tosh, the mob is drowned out as he listens to the song "The Man" through his headphones. The song's chorus repeats, "I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man." Tosh makes his way through the crowd smiling and offering high-fives, oblivious to the attacks.
Each cut to his "girlfriend" reveals she is bearing all of the protesters' insults and she becomes more and more upset as they walk up to the clinic doors. Protesters shout:
You're a fat whore!
I hope your dead baby haunts you!
Don't take a life because you can't close your legs!
You're going to burn in hell!
Your face is an abortion!
A protester's sign shows a rendering of a baby inside the bag of a vacuum cleaner. Other signs say:
Girls are stupid.
What if that fetus was Jesus?
Roll tide!
I was aborted.
I want my baby back, baby back, baby back
The commercial spoof fades and the words, "Hear what you want" appear on the screen.
This ad parodies other actual Beats headphones commercials featuring sports stars who use them to block out distractions as they prepare for games.
As art imitates life, Tosh's sketch may come as a result of his sister-in-law, who is president and CEO of Orlando, Florida's Planned Parenthood, having run-ins with protesters.
