From today's "Totally Not Out Of Touch" files, we have yet another Democrat attempting to appeal to blue collar workers and completely blowing it. Who can forget Iowa's Bruce Braley, who earlier this year used a European farm as the photo for his farmer outreach on Facebook? Now we have Alison Grimes in Kentucky, running against Mitch McConnell, who tries the authenticity thing to equally hilarious effect.

Politico reports:

A European male model pretending to be a coal miner appears prominently in a newspaper advertisement released by Kentucky Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Coal, of course, is a major issue in Kentucky, and any politician hoping for a victory in the state must appeal to and understand the industry and its workers. Naturally, Grimes knows this, and her ad was challenging the President's politically toxic position on the issue. It featured the tagline “President Obama and Washington Don’t Get It … Alison Grimes Does.” Casting Derek Zoolander in the background image would seem to belie Grimes' claim to "get it."

Before it went to print, the ad was pulled due to a "mistake in the template." The new ad still features a stock photo, but this time from an American photographer.
