In further evidence that the mainstream media is willing to shed any shred of credibility they have left to spin for Barack Obama, CNN's Joe Johns offered up a baseless defence of what NBC News has revealed to be a complete falsehood - the president's repeated promise that those who like their existing health insurance would be able to keep it under Obamacare.

Speaking to Wolf Blitzer, Johns first attempts to minimize the frequency with which the president offered up his false assurance:

Wolf, if you look at some of these statements, they do appear to have made some statements at the outset, while they were selling the program, that appear to have been overbroad...

At the outset? Not only did the president repeat this claim ad nausem throughout the campaign to deem and pass his signature legislation through congress, he also made it repeatedly on the 2012 campaign trail.

In fact, his team was still making it two days ago - but with a special caveat.

Johns is quick to pick up on that talking point dujour:

The president said again and again that you can keep your insurance. But it's not clear how many times he actually distinguished between employer-based insurance and those who bought private insurance after ObamaCare was signed into law. … It's not clear how often they told people insurance companies might cancel policies because they didn't comply with ObamaCare.

Johns - echoing Jarrett - subtly moves the conversation away from one about White House dishonesty, and toward the left-media's talking point, that the million-and-a-half people losing their insurance today are victims of the insurance companies, not Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. If the president is guilty of anything, it is only failing to adequately warn the American people about what those greedy insurance companies might do next.
