Chuck Todd: Alison Lundergan Grimes ‘Disqualified Herself’ by Refusing to Admit She Voted for Obama

"Is she ever going to answer a tough question on anything? You want to be a U.S. senator?"

Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd declared on "Morning Joe" Friday that Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes had “disqualified herself” this week by repeatedly refusing to say who she voted for in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.

Grimes is running in a relatively tight race against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, with several recent polls showing McConnell with a slight edge. In an editorial board interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal this week, Grimes refused several times to answer questions about her votes in 2008 and 2012, citing “the sanctity of the ballot box.”

"Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski led into the segment by calling Grimes' actions "cringeworthy." After playing a clip from the interview, Joe Scarborough blasted the Senate candidate for her disingenuous response:

Scarborough: The sanctity of the ballot box? Oh my God! That’s awful! How could Alison Lundergan Grimes make a … what a rookie mistake! Just admit it..!. Don’t treat us like we’re stupid!

Todd took it a step further, asking how could Kentuckians trust her to make tough decisions and stand by them if she couldn’t even admit whom she voted for:

Todd: Even to say that you regret your vote, that would seem as disingenuous. That is … and Kentuckians expect her to cast a tough vote on anything? … Is she ever going to answer a tough question on anything? You want to be a U.S. senator? … I think she disqualified herself. I really do. I think she disqualified herself.
