On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping informed village officials across the country that they should make “spicy” attempts to “sweat” out corruption in their neighborhood on behalf of the Communist Party. “The weapons of criticism and self-criticism should be well-wielded, with some spice to make every Party official blush and sweat a little,” Xi said in Henan Province.
The Communist Party of China is attempting to curb “malpractice and harmful work styles” by having members of its Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee supervise a county; officials are then required to report on themselves and their colleagues. Xi said that Communist officials should avoid social activities and instead “maintain a balance between kindness and principles.”
