Heh. A University of Toronto professor isn't impressed by what higher education has become, famously calling it “the next best thing to a cult.”
The extraordinarily popular Jordan Peterson, who teaches psychology, refuses to use gender-neutral pronouns and is very outspoken against “compelled speech.” Last March, he began using the fundraising platform Patreon to raise money associated with filming his lectures to YouTube. This series of videos will be a more "straightforward" humanities education, without all the social engineering thrown in. According to the Toronto Star:
He is now harnessing his online clout with eyes on a new goal — to offer an online university degree in the humanities for which students pay only for examinations.
“I’m fighting this as a battle of ideas,” Peterson told the Star. “Hopefully I can bring high-quality education to millions of people — for nothing. Wouldn’t that be cool.”
The crowdsourcing effort has worked better than anyone could've imagined: Peterson's bringing in nearly $39,000 (in American money) per month. Infuriating liberals even more, the more the professor gets criticized... the more money pours in.
The controversial professor rose to notoriety when he attempted to participate in a panel discussion at McMaster University in March. According to the YouTube video's description, "Three other panel members dropped out because of controversy and harassment. Then the moderator also dropped out. Overcome The Gap (OTG), the McMaster club who hosted me, went forward courageously with the talk, despite experiencing substantial pressure to cancel. They did their best to regulate the event, but the protestors entered the room before the event technically started." Watch the video below, which begins with protestors chanting loudly following by the professor trying to speak. After the protestors block the fire exits, the fire marshals force everyone outside. There, Peterson speaks with "a ring of students surrounding me, and the protestors at the periphery."
This is the kind of madness that people are sick and tired of... and the kind of stand that people will reach into their wallets to support.
