The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) made a most audacious request on its website: remove every last symbol of the Confederacy across the United States of America.
A resolution was posted on Monday “requesting the removal of all Confederate memorials, flags, street names, and symbols from public spaces and property.” It was made in response to the violence that occurred when a protest by white supremacists at a historic monument in Charlottesville was countered by violent leftists.
The Daily Caller received a statement from CAIR’s national executive director, Nihad Awad:
“A fitting response to the deadly terror attack on anti-racist protesters in Charlottesville would be for officials in states and cities nationwide to immediately announce that every street, every school, every flag, and every public memorial honoring those who took up arms in defense of white supremacy and slavery will be removed or have its name changed to instead honor those who fought for civil rights. Removal of these memorials would be a small step forward in turning the page on the darkest period in our nation’s history.”
Muslims seem to be quite fond of removing relics of the past.
CAIR provided a template for all municipalities to use as a guide when it comes time for such a proposal, including nine reasons why Confederate symbols are harmful to blacks and preserve white supremacy. CAIR suggests the monuments be moved away from the public eye and into museums “where they are not glorified and solely used for historical, analytical and educational purposes” and in the empty places will go the names of prominent African-Americans and “other civil rights leaders.”
Surely, CAIR leaders would love their own names on school buildings and streets. Of course, never mind those inconvenient links to terrorist organizations and the constant downplaying of violent Islam. This is all about Confederacy=bad, Islam=good.
