It’s no secret that Democrats want more gun laws, but their true desire is far more sinister and The Boston Globe is coming right out and admitting it: “Hand Over Your Weapons.”
The Globe’s David Scharfenberg writes in his column that because of all the recent mass shootings, there is just “no way around” going full-confiscation on America’s guns:
The logic of gun control lies, at bottom, in substantially reducing the number of deadly weapons on the street — and confiscation is far and away the most effective approach. Is there any conceivable turn of events in our politics that could make confiscation happen? And what would a mass seizure look like?
Ultimately, if gun-control advocates really want to stanch the blood, there’s no way around it: They’ll have to persuade more people of the need to confiscate millions of those firearms, as radical as that idea may now seem.
Scharfenberg argues that Democrats simply calling for more gun control is too “limited.”
“Congress can ban assault weapons, but they account for just a tiny sliver of the country’s 33,000 annual firearm deaths,” he writes. “And tighter background checks will do nothing to cut down on the 310 million guns already in circulation.”
“In other words, the proposals aren’t just difficult to enact in the current political climate; their practical effects would also be quite limited. On occasion, though, leading Democrats will make oblique reference to a more sweeping policy change: seizing a huge number of weapons from law-abiding citizens.”
Of course, what gun-confiscating article would be complete without referencing the “success” of the late ’90s gun grab in Australia? Leftists love touting how Australia hasn’t had a mass shooting since the buyback occurred at the hands of its government. But thankfully, Newsbusters countered this silly argument with cold, hard facts about how Australia's murder rate isn't any better than here:
Rough math would indicate that the murder rate in this 69 percent of U.S. counties [which have no more than one murder] was less than 1 per 100,000 residents (4 percent of all murders is roughly 600, divided by 20 percent of the nation's population, which would be 64 million). That just so happens to equal the murder rate in Australia, the gun-grabbers' favorite country.
However, these are numbers Scharfenberg wasn’t even interested in exploring. Why? Because leftists want guns eradicated, not necessarily murder, as Newsbusters editor Tom Blumer so eloquently explained:
[S]olving the murder problem isn't what "gun-control advocates really want."
What they want is to take as many guns as they possibly from everyone in the nation, regardless of how safe the area in which they live is. This is a surefire recipe for ensuring that bad guys with guns can carry out their crimes with impunity anywhere in the nation, any time.
