Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has been given a special security detail after the tea party favorite received an online threat from the ISIS terror group.

According to Politico, Capitol Police have found the threat to be serious and credible:

Members of the U.S. Capitol Police’s Dignitary Protection Division were briefed on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The police security will continue until Bachmann, who will retire at the end of this Congress, is no longer in office.

A police detail of this type typically means 24-hour protection when a member of Congress is on Capitol Hill or back in the home district. Officials declined to outline the specific nature of the threat. Bachmann’s office referred news media inquiries to Capitol Police. A Capitol Police spokeswoman declined to comment.

“The U.S. Capitol Police does not discuss law enforcement operations or security regarding Members of Congress,” spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider wrote in an email.

The concern about the safety of Bachmann, R-Minn., stems from a video released by the Islamic State that features a clip of Bachmann speaking about the rise of radical Islam.

In the video, Bachmann’s voice is heard but her image is blurred. Sources speculated to Fox News that Bachmann’s picture could have been distorted for the video because she is a woman and was not wearing what they considered proper attire.

Bachmann has been one of the most vociferous voices in Washington speaking out against the rise of ISIS. Politico points out that the out-going Minnesota congresswoman drafted legislation that would revoke citizenship from any American who joins the terror group. Shockingly, her colleagues chose not to take up such a sensible piece of legislation. Perhaps they lack Bachmann's courage.
