NBC political analyst and former adviser to President Obama David Axelrod appeared on Tuesday's Morning Joe on MSNBC and questioned the 2016 presidential rallying cry from Hillary Clinton supporters, "Ready for Hillary," by asking, "Ready for what?"

Joe Scarborough had a similar reaction. telling Axelrod that Clinton, to him, is somewhat of a mystery. The two discussed the issue:

Scarborough: David, isn't that the problem about Hillary? You don't know what Hillary stands for. I don't know what Hillary stands for. The Democratic base, the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party doesn't really know what Hillary stands for. She is so careful. She is so cautious. She is so Clinton-esque. It's got to drive the base crazy.

Axelrod: I will say Clinton-esque seems to have worked in the past. But… you hear, 'Ready for Hillary,' it's like, ready for what? And now Hillary's task is to define what it is that she's running for and running about and what would the future look like under another President Clinton, and I suspect that's what she's taking her time working through now.

But she has to answer that question.

Axelrod offered a potential Hillary candidate some advice, saying she should act like she did in 2008 after she lost the New Hampshire primary. Then, he said, she related to the experiences of the people; in order to get on the side of an anxious people, she needs to speak to them in the same manner leading in to 2016.
