Army Vet Killed at Homecoming Celebration

22-year-old Francisco Garcia

Army veteran Francisco Garcia, 22, was shot and killed at 2 a.m. Sunday morning while celebrating his recent return from Afghanistan, according to CBS Los Angeles.

It is reported that a Hispanic man jumped out of a dark SUV and angrily approached Garcia who was standing out on the sidewalk. The man "retrieved a handgun from a second suspect" and fired the fatal shots at Garcia.

Commanding officer, Lt. Paul Vernon, is quoted as saying:

It appears Francisco was the target of the attack. Apparently, a simmering dispute had boiled over during the night, and this suspect came looking for Francisco. Figuring out the dispute should lead us to the shooter.

It is stated that detectives do not believe the shooter attended the party. They are asking for any help in identifying the suspects. Call (818) 838-9948.

The report notes that Garcia was preparing to start his dream job -- being a part of the California Highway Patrol as a law enforcement officer.
