After two resignations and a tearful apology, MSNBC is now reviewing all scripts before they hit the air. This shocking revelation was buried in the seventh paragraph of Monday's must read National Review Online piece on Rachel Maddow’s growing influence over the network.

The new step of having Rich Stockwell review scripts before they air is an attempt to impose order on the chaos reigning at the network. “[MSNBC President] Phil [Griffin] was a producer, trained from the beginning to accommodate hosts — he’s incapable of reining these guys in,” says a former colleague.

The move comes on the heels a string of embarrassing and inappropriate comments made by MSNBC hosts over the last months beginning with Alec Baldwin's admittedly off-air anti-gay slurs resulted in his ouster from the network, and continuing with Martin Bashir's vile, sexist declaration that someone should p*ss and sh*t in Sarah Palin's mouth and more recently Melissa Harris-Perry's panel discussion mocking the Romney family’s adopted black child. In that context, MSNBC adding an extra step in the review process isn’t surprising. The question is whether or not it will be effective.
