New York City had a particularly violent weekend with 14 people shot, three fatally, and an additional four stabbed as of Sunday morning.

One victim was shot and killed after leaving a party in Brooklyn. "I was walking home and then I heard shots," said a witness who didn't give his name. "This guy just dropped."

About 20 minutes later, a gunman wearing bandana over his face and a dark colored hat blasted Akming Albritton, 25, several times in the torso as he stood among a group of friends on North Elliot Place near Flushing Ave. — about three blocks from his Sands St. home in Fort Greene, police said.

Another man was shot outside a home in Crown Heights, followed by a 16-year-old in Williamsbridge. The violence kicked off with four men shot in the Bronx; all of them are expected to recover.

While those shootings were taking place, two people were stabbed in Hunts Point. Another man was stabbed in Concourse and is expected to survive. In Washington Heights, a man was stabbed in front of 809 Lounge.

New York City still lags behind Chicago for murders-to-date. As of August 21, NYC has seen 222 murders, while Chicago has had more than twice that many with 485. Baltimore still lags behind both cities with 199 murders to date.
