Now before we get to the gender gap MYTH and it is a myth, a quick message to feminists. This is why people can’t stand you. INCLUDING women. Too many Neo-feminists are illogical angry and shrill. // Here you have a platform to accept an award and be gracious, instead you spout off some inappropriate political message, even though it’s completely untrue. And you’re silly feminist buddies all clap like trained seals.
When you are wrong about something, and Arquette is wrong, but people won’t tell you because they just don’t want to face the cackly ramifications of your butch-haircutted chain-gang. You’ve now become the bully.
But onto the equal pay gender gap myth. And in this instance we will not compare all 51 genders
But the main two… because you know science. The myth that women make less for the same job as a man stems from ONE poorly interpreted statistic that merely reflects the median earnings of all men and women classified as full-time workers. This stat does not include two people of different genders working in the same industry, the same job, or even the same number of hours. So the "pay gap” myth is untrue for a few reasons, but let’s start with very simple economics. If I’m a business owner, and I can get away with paying women half the amount for the EXACT same job… I’d never hire a man again. Ever. I’d start hiring on cup size and fire every last male schwanson on staff if only to drastically increase profits
But what about the patriarchal sexism in the workplace?! Firstly, men like women. We didn’t have a secret meeting behind your back. But even if there were some men hiring SOLELY based on chauvinism it only takes ONE who isn’t to create a competitive job marketplace. So why are women paid less? The #1 determining factor is that women, have babies. Oh are you saying that’s all we’re good for?! No just that in general, women are the ones found with child. You know, wombs and what have you. So not only does that mean less time in the work-force, but most mothers are likely to pick jobs that trade in longer, hours, dangerous conditions and traveling for more mother/kid friendly positions. It’s why nearly all the most dangerous occupations, such as loggers or iron workers, are male and 92% of work-related deaths in 2012 were men.
So you may complain about slightly lower pay. WE DIE. In addition, men are TWICE as likely to work a 40 hour work week.
Men work on average 8.14 hours a day compared to women working only 7.75.
