Google is turning into Big Brother and is using its power to keep certain viewpoints off the web. It’s happening across its other properties, too, including YouTube which is coming under fire for increasing censorship.
A new policy was announced several months ago, but it has really kicked in this week, The Sun reports. YouTube is now putting videos into what it calls a “limited state,” meaning a click-through warning is applied to the video that the content could be offensive. It’s all a part of Google’s “tougher treatment” of users. The company believes it's upholding free speech because it isn’t banning the videos outright. However, the videos can’t be embedded onto other websites, they aren’t easily sharable, and the comments are disabled.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange explained:
“Controversial” but contract-legal videos [which break YouTube's terms and conditions] cannot be liked, embedded or earn [money from advertising revenue]. What's interesting about the new method deployed is that it is a clear attempt at social engineering. It isn't just turning off the ads. It's turning off the comments, embeds, etc too. Everything possible to strangle the reach without deleting it.
And as we point out quite often here at TruthRevolt, it's those that lean to the right of the political spectrum that bear the biggest brunt of this censorship. One of the most recent examples is with a black YouTuber Candace Owens, who posts under the name RedPillBlack. She put up a video critical of Black Lives Matter, specifically targeting its call for white people to give up their homes to poor blacks. Owens’ video was completely removed from YouTube because it “violated” their guidelines. Here was her response:
"What does it mean when a company owned by rich white ppl begins censoring black people? Is this the white nationalism I should be scared of?
"They said it was for harassment and bullying. I literally just read the girl's list [of demands] out loud."
The video has been republished to the site, but it’s quite obvious the problem isn’t going away anytime soon.
The Sun states that Google is even talking with “religious communities to discuss getting the balance right between censorship and open discussion.” We have a feeling Islamic teachings will remain as safe as they are now.
“Google uses a team of thousands of community moderators to police content and decide whether it should be banned or limited,” The Sun adds. “Google does employ machine learning to target videos which are pornographic or depict extremist acts of violence… [but] Final decisions on whether to remove or limit content are taken by humans.”
Triggered humans, apparently.
