A detailed report has been released by The Washington Post that shows that in over 40 years in public life, the Clintons have been able to raise $3 billion dollars for their campaigns and foundation.
"Bill and Hillary Clinton have built an unrivaled global network of donors while pioneering fundraising techniques that have transformed modern politics and paved the way for them to potentially become the first husband and wife to win the White House," the report states.
The total -- and it's stated as "at least $3 billion" -- breaks down like this: $2 billion for the Clinton Foundation, slated to support global health, economic, and education issues, and $1 billion going towards the Clintons' various political campaigns:
"Nearly all the funds went to support six federal campaigns and their family foundation."
"The Clintons’ fundraising operation — $3 billion amassed by one couple, working in tandem for more than four decades — has no equal," the report continues. As a comparison, WaPo points to the Bush family who for their state and federal campaigns, as well as six charitable foundations, have raised $2.4 billion in nearly 30 years.
For just the political side of the equation, Bill has raised $544 million for both presidential campaigns and his legal defense fund. Hillary, on the other hand, didn't quite reach that amount for her two Senate bids and now two presidential campaigns, only totaling $455 million. (Hillary has raised nearly twice what Bernie Sanders has for the 2016 campaign, and nearly a third more than Ben Carson. And she reached the $110 million mark at the end of September!)
The investigation revealed that 290,000 "known donors" provided the Clintons with $600 million of the $1 billion figure. It is interesting to note that Hillary's campaigns have historically brought in the most cash, taking in over 20% more than her husbands donations.
The WaPo also states that they found nearly 1% of the Clinton's donors as being responsible for giving 21% of the total money.
Speaking of one-percenters, the report shows "strong support from Wall Street," that same evil institutions the Clintons have sworn to put asunder. (Maybe under contract, that is.)
The report is very detailed and includes several revealing graphics, like the one showing "Hillary's six-day money dash" tour of the United States, where she was able to raise over $4 million. Check it out here.
The best part? The Clintons declined to be interviewed for the article. But, really, what difference at this point would it make?
