In what conservatives might view as a Freudian slip, U.S. News & World Report's latest headline reads, "Thanks to Obama, the Military Will Never Be the Same Again." Their sycophantic review of America's current commander-in-chief is anything but critical.
"Change you can believe in," begins the Report's Paul Shinkman in a video clip, claiming President Obama has at least made good on that campaign promise when it comes to the U.S. military. Apparently that means Obama gets the credit for the two women who this week became the first to successfully complete the Army's brutal Ranger School. And he gets the credit for the Navy's announcement that women could become SEALs. It seems the underlying mantra of "You didn't build that" is alive and well in this category.
Shinkman boasted of the Starship Troopers-style of advanced weaponry and technology that has advanced inside the military while Obama has been president. He, of course, made that possible. And soon, an advisory board will decide if openly transgendered Americans can serve in the military, as well.
Shinkman concludes:
A lot of more senior troops are dubious about these changes. And, admittedly, there has been a lot for an institution that is founded on its tradition. But one thing is for sure, and that's the young troops coming into the force today are facing an entirely new military that has all the change it can deal with.
