Teen Vogue Advises Teens on the Perfect Post-Abortion Gifts

How about a gift card for some counseling?

Guess what the worst thing about abortion is.  Go ahead.  I'll give you some time. Well, according to Teen Vogue, it's "how you’re treated afterwards."

gift giving guide for post-abortive teens advises, "Abortion is something that many women feel like they can’t talk about, even amongst themselves, which creates a false stigma. The more we hide something, the more confusing it becomes.... She will need a ride, she will need a hug, and she will need you — not because the act itself is so terrible, but because sometimes the world can be."

Right. I feel for the poor writer at Teen Vogue named Whitney Bell, who had to write the copy for this oh-so-fun slideshow. If, on the one hand, having an abortion is just as innocuous as a tooth extraction, why the need for all the gifts?

Oh right. Because "the world" is horrible. Indeed, it is.

Whitney suggests some fantastic gifts for the new mother teen who just had an abortion. It's like a baby shower, but without having to wear those ugly maternity clothes! For example, she suggests a coloring book featuring the second ever female Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Because nothing says, "I want to fight the horrors of the world" than a coloring book.

If coloring is not quite your thing, Teen Vogue suggests a "F U-terus" pin which features both a uterus and an extended middle finger. Our two favorite things! "...When some rude jerk asks if you regret your choice (as if that is somehow their business), you won’t need to say a word," Whitney writes.

Next, she suggests underwear for after the teen's abortion. She writes, "that’s no reason not to rock em for post-abortion woes, especially because there will be blood." Oops! Whitney, you temporarily let it slip in that this procedure is going to cause you to bleed for a week, even though -- the very slideshow format suggests -- it is NO BIG DEAL. Did you accidentally use the phrase "post-abortion woes?" Hey, what's there to be sad about? Oh right, "the world."

Of course, the truth is that girls who've had an abortion are more likely to have substance abuse problems, more like to miscarry future pregnancies, more like to commit suicide, and more like to have clinical depression.

But hey, a pin in the shape of a uterus might help.
