During Senator Jeff Sessions’ Attorney General confirmation hearing Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Ted Cruz took the opportunity to skewer his Democratic colleagues over a long list of instances of blatant hypocrisy in recent years.
Conservative Review reports that Democrats on the committee, especially Senator Dianne Feinstein, had been grilling Sessions on whether he would uphold abortion laws in the United States if he becomes Attorney General. Senator Patrick Leahy interrogated Sessions on LGBT rights, questioning whether Sessions would uphold civil rights laws as Attorney General.
When given the floor, Cruz turned the spotlight on the Democrats for their indifference toward the many times Obama flouted the law:
“When the Obama Justice Department sent millions of dollars of taxpayer money to sanctuary cities defying federal immigration law, the Democrats on this committee were silent. When the Obama administration refused to enforce federal immigration law…the Democrats on this committee were silent. When the Obama administration released tens of thousands of illegal aliens including rapists and murderers into the general population, Democrats on this committee were silent.”
Cruz also pointed out Democratic hypocritical silence on Obama's ransom payment to Iran and his release of Guantanamo terrorists without congressional approval. There is much more. Enjoy it all in the video above (note that there is a stretch early on during which Cruz is interrupted and the sound is cut because radicals disrupted the proceedings with loud accusations of Sessions' supposed racism).
Cruz’s remarks were well-received by conservatives on Twitter, like this one:
Hear, hear.
