The newly-elected Democratic Senator Kamala Harris from California asked the tough questions Thursday of Donald Trump's nominee to head the CIA, Rep. Mike Pompeo. She asked him if he believes in climate change.
"In the past you have questioned the scientific consensus on climate change," asked the gun control fanatic and former California Attorney General, who created the Environmental Justice Unit in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and has prosecuted industries and individuals for pollution. "Nevertheless according to NASA, multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 97% or more of actively published climate scientists agree that climate warming trends of the past century are extremely likely due to human activities... Do you have any reason to doubt NASA's findings?"
Pompeo deferentially tried to deflect the line of questioning, because any sensible person can see that climate change isn't the CIA's responsibility. Harris persisted, as you can see in the short clip above.
Pompeo ultimately agreed to revisit the topic with Harris later, which is disappointing. It would have been nice if he had told her directly that his opinion on climate change science is irrelevant to running the CIA, because there's nothing the CIA can do about climate change. He already assured her that the CIA would take climate change into consideration wherever it may be a contributing factor to regional instability; otherwise what's he supposed to do about it?
Good to know that California's politicians have their priorities straight, as always.
