Taxpayers Fork Over $1 Million to Family of Drug Smuggling Illegal Alien

Just a good old boy. Never meaning no harm.

Congratulations, America! You just handed over one million of your hard-earned dollars to the family of a drug-smuggling illegal alien thanks to a wrongful-death lawsuit against the U.S. government.

Cruz Velazquez Acevedo, who was only 16 years old, tried to sneak two bottles of liquid meth past Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on November, 18, 2013, claiming it was only apple juice. Suspecting the kid was lying, CBP agents told him to take a drink, which he did. After four sips and a couple of minutes, his body broke into sweats with a 105-degree temperature and his heart began to race at 220 BPMs. He screamed in Spanish, “My heart! My heart!” Acevedo was dead in two hours.

The boy’s family sued the government, claiming the border agents “coerced and intimidated” him to drink from the bottles. The family’s lawyer said Acevedo was “basically a good boy” who was subjected to “the most inhuman kind of cruelty.” The lawsuit also alleged CBP violated the Constitution through unjust punishment without due process and accused the agency of not training its officers properly.

The court ruled in favor of the family and awarded them $1 million. Both CBP officers named in the lawsuit, Adrian Perallon and Valerie Baird, were not fired and are still agents.
