So Much for 'Je Suis Charlie': Swedish Artist Investigated for Satire of Muslim Refugees

So much for championing freedom of speech.

After the massacre at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo claimed the lives of a dozen innocent people including 10 journalists and two police officers, the world united in a flurry of solidarity-hashtags and Facebook posts.  The sentiment, “I am Charlie” rang out in a feeble if well-meaning attempt to stand up to censorship, to Islamists.

The critical fact many of Charlie’s champions failed to remember is that in order to stand by the principles of free speech and honor those who died exercising it, one needs to stop pandering to Islamists -- stop censoring that which might be construed as “Islamophobic” and stop vilifying those who question the intentions of Islamists.

Clearly, this essential truth is lost on those seemingly hell-bent on ushering in their own destruction. Now, Swedish artist Dan Park, who distributed flyers satirizing a “Refugees Welcome” motif in a Danish town, is being investigated and fined by local police. Breitbart explains:

Putting his flyers into home post boxes in the Danish town of Silkeborg, Mr. Park had hoped to direct “as much attention as possible” to the issue of terrorists sneaking into Europe, disguised among the migrant hordes.

The Silkeborg force initially decided to investigate Mr. Park for making threats and inciting terror, but could find no grounds to charge him for the political satire. Instead, he and his assistants who helped him flyer the area will be fined 1,000dkk (£100) each for posting the flyers in unauthorised spaces, reports TheLocal.dk.

This is not the first time Mr. Park has seen controversy stem from his work. As well as being sentenced to six months behind bars for racial agitation in 2014, his works have also prompted violence and death threats. A Copenhagen art gallery cancelled an exhibition of his works in 2014 after death threats were made against the gallery owner and his family for showing the art.

So much for #JeSuisCharlie
