TruthRevolt founder Ben Shapiro appeared Monday night on the Kelly File to discuss the overreaction and subsequent under-retraction by the New York Times to a Port Authority official's claim that "evidence exists" that Governor Chris Christie knew of the retaliatory lane closures happening in his state.

According to Shapiro, the mistake stems from bad motives on the part of the Times.

The Times messed it up because they're out to get Chris Christie.

On Friday, the Times published a piece suggesting that David Wildsetin, the Port Authority official who oversaw the retaliatory closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge that have come to be known as Bridgegate, "had the evidence to prove" that Governor Chris Christie "knew about the lane closings as they were happening," claims Gov. Christie has vehemently denied.

The problem? That's not quite what Mr. Wildstein, speaking through his attorney, had actually said. In actuality, Mr. Wildstein had said that "evidence exists" that Gov. Christie knew. As Shaprio said to Megyn Kelly, there is a big difference between those two statements.

The statement that you know that evidence exists is not the same as the statement that you have evidence. If you have evidence that Barack Obama is actually an alien from Mars, we’d all like to see it. If you think that evidence exists that that’s the case, we aren’t going to listen to you.

With reporting like that, no doubt the Times will run a story tomorrow claiming "Shapiro believes evidence exists that President is not human."
