Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. apparently is so miffed that Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the election that he's losing his social graces. On Sunday evening, at what has been described as a "swanky" Manhattan eating establishment, he ran into Joseph A. Califano Jr. and his wife, Hilary. Joseph is apparently not what you'd call a rabid conservative. In fact, he served under President Jimmy Carter as the U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare and advised President Lyndon Johnson on internal affairs. However, his wife Hilary voted for Donald Trump. (Her father William S. Paley founded and is the chairman of CBS.)
According to witnesses, Schumer pointed out Trump's dishonesty:
“They are a highly respected couple, and Schumer made a scene, yelling, ‘She voted for Trump!’ The Califanos left the restaurant, but Schumer followed them outside.” On the sidewalk, Schumer carried on with his fantastical filibuster: “ ‘How could you vote for Trump? He’s a liar!’ He kept repeating, ‘He’s a liar!’ ”
Isn't it shocking how unaware of their own foibles politicians can be? Mrs. Califano didn't seem too intimidated by the scene.
“Sen. Schumer was really rude . . . He’s our senator, and I don’t really like him. Yes, I voted for Trump. Schumer joined us outside and he told me Trump was a liar. I should have told him that Hillary Clinton was a liar, but I was so surprised I didn’t say anything.”
Really, what's left to say? After all the ink was spilled on the 2016 President election, supporters of each nominee should realize by now that this nation was dealing with less-than-perfect candidates. If you're unwilling to admit that fact -- to the point of rudely interrupting a dinner of someone who voted for the other guy -- you just may have lost your mental clarity on the issue.
