Florida Senator Marco Rubio is reaching into his family history for a new TV ad that portrays him and his presidential campaign as the American dream fulfilled.

The ad opens as Rubio speaks of hearing his dad come home late from work, where he tended a portable bar at the back of a ballroom.

"That journey from behind that bar to behind this podium, that’s the essence of the American Dream," Rubio says as soft music plays underneath.

Rubio's parents were Cuban immigrants to America, his father working as a bartender, his mother as a hotel housekeeper.

After a shaky start, the junior senator from the Sunshine state has been able to enter into the top tier of candidates, jockeying for position in third and fourth spot with Ted Cruz, another son of a Cuban immigrant. Rubio and Cruz are the only candidates other than front runner Donald Trump and Ben Carson to hit double digit support in recent polls.
